Pigeon Party!

My class has been loving Mo Willems' pigeon books, so last week we decided to have a "Pigeon Party". Here is a picture of the cake I made. The day was a blast! We made pigeon hats and had lunch- which was a pigeon favorite - hot dogs! (followed by our pigeon cake:) The students really enjoyed learning to draw the pigeon and then writing their own pigeon stories. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our amazing progress with reading and writing.

Anyone have a simple octopus costume idea?

For our year-end assembly each class has to present one song. We have chosen Octopus Garden (Ringo Starr). The kids love it! Now I just need to figure out a way to make 19 octopus outfits (with not spending too much!) I can sew...but would prefer to keep that to a minimum. Anyone have any ideas? I've already checked Pinterest...and google images - but haven't seen anything that I can pull off yet. Thanks for any advice!

iPad storage

I just discovered a perfect solution for my iPad storage dilemma! It's a dish drainer. The iPads fit perfectly in their cases, and I have easy access when I need to plug them in to the powerbar to recharge. I can also easily leave the headphones plugged in and hang them over the end of the rack and they won't become a tangled mess.

iPads in the classroom!

I am thrilled that I was able to get four iPads donated for my class! We have been having so much fun with them. One of the first things we tried was the Sock Puppet app. The students had to complete a procedural writing piece, then they were able to choose a puppet and funny voice to record their writing. They loved it! Here's a sample...How to ride a horse!
