More classroom photos...

My ABC bins

I decorated Crystal  Light containers that I had been hoarding saving :)

Patterned paper and a dimensional sticker on each one.

An assortment of items in each bin.  M has - moose, music note, milk, monkey, marble, letter m, letter m puzzle pieces and a magnet.

This is my writing center table. It's regular height, so the chairs are actually boosters from Ikea (years ago). Just freshened up with some bright green paint.

Each little basket has some words or letters to get the kids writing if they are looking for inspiration.  This one has the days of the week words.

Letters for printing, with directional arrows to show proper technique :)

Weather  words.

Word game with paint chips inspired by Pink and Green Mama

Holiday words.

Word bottles.  I used a variety of beans, sprinkles, pom poms, beads, and rice.  These were inspired by Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits

Each bottle has a different theme.   I used sight words, word families, names of the students, months and days, question words, color words, and shape words.  Warning - making these becomes addictive!

Question posters

I love inquiry-based learning and I'm planning to start the year with a review of question words.  I just created a poster set that I put on TPT here.

Getting ready . . .

I still have lots to do before back to school...but I have been spending some time getting my room ready and it's coming together nicely!

The Hungry Caterpillar (made with floor mats and craft foam) decorates the hallway.

These are my file crate seats with Eric Carle fabric. I'm loving the extra storage!

Bright and sunny!

Freebie

One of my TPT items is a featured freebie today at http://vintageteacher.blogspot.com/.

I'm working on adding more to my TPT site...

Self-portraits

The kids had a blast trying to make their paintings look exactly like themselves.

Dr. Seuss Reading Cafe

During our Dr. Seuss unit I adapted our dramatic play center to be a "Dr. Seuss Reading Cafe".  The kids loved it.  They had Seuss menus that they would use to choose a Seuss book....the server would then bring them their book (as well as the accompanying stuffed toy from Kohls).  After they read their book they would fill out a comment card and submit it to their server in the cafe.  It was a huge success!
This is the table with menus ready for customers...

The menu items were delivered in big red bowls -cute!

Data/graphing math centers

This activity is designed for data management.  Students survey others and represent their findings with these dollar store clips attached to a jumbo hair elastic, wrapped around the tray.  They can then talk about their findings.

the same clips and elastics with a different tray...

If you don't have a tray, a bin lid will work. You could also change up the clips for various themes, or depending on the topic of the survey..

Math Centers

Here are some pictures of Math Centers that I have put together...most with dollar store finds.

Students count out the flowers to put into each numbered bucket.

In this one students clip on the appropriate number of flower clips onto the scour pad garden.

Starting Out

Inspired by some of the wonderful blogs I have seen recently...I thought I would give blogging a try.  I'm looking forward to teaching a combined kindergarten/grade one this year!
